Issue description

Check the cause

  1. Restart the tractor to see if the code is a transient glitch that can be corrected by resetting the communication messages during a power cycle.

  2. Check the fuse panel for blown fuses supplying power to the PTF (specifically check fuse F15 for 7020/7030 series).

  3. Check for loose, damaged, or corroded wires and connectors between the logging module (e.g., RLC, AIC) and the PTF.

  4. Ensure the CAN bus terminating resistors are in good condition and properly installed.

  5. Identify and eliminate sources of electrical interference (e.g., damaged shielding or poor grounds) that may disrupt CAN Bus communication.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the engine, place the tractor in park, and turn the key switch off.

  2. Fuse Replacement

    Locate the fuse panel and inspect the fuse designated for the Front PTO Control Unit (often F15, but verify with your specific model's operator manual). Replace if blown.

  3. Harness Inspection

    Locate the PTF module (usually mounted near the front frame/PTO assembly). Disconnect the wiring harness and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out pins. Clean with contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease if necessary.

  4. Circuit Testing

    Use a multimeter to verify that the PTF module is receiving 12V switched power and has a solid ground. Next, test the CAN High and CAN Low lines for continuity back to the main harness, ensuring there are no open circuits or shorts to ground.

  5. Module Replacement

    If the wiring is intact, power and ground are present, and the CAN lines test good, the PTF module itself has likely suffered an internal failure and must be replaced.

  6. Software Update

    If communication is restored but intermittent, use John Deere Service ADVISOR to install any available software updates or patches for the PTF and the logging module (RLC/AIC).
