John Deere 2047.09 – Multiple: Missing CAN Message / Communication Lost (Abnormal Update Rate)

A control module on the machine's CAN bus network has stopped receiving expected data messages from another module (potentially the Front Chassis Module / Suspended Front Axle module, SFA). This is usually caused by a physical wiring issue, a failed terminating resistor, or a malfunctioning control unit.

   Inspect the CAN bus network wiring and connectors between the SFA module and the main CAN hub for damage, corrosion, or loose pins.

   Verify that the SFA module is receiving proper unswitched and switched ignition voltage. Check related fuses (e.g., F30) and ensure the battery is fully charged.

   Perform a CAN Bus Resistance Test with the machine off and battery disconnected. Measure resistance between CAN High and CAN Low pins (60 ohms is normal, 120 ohms indicates one missing/open resistor, OL indicates a complete break).

   Perform a CAN Bus Voltage Test with the key ON. CAN High should fluctuate between 2.5V and 3.5V, and CAN Low should fluctuate between 1.5V and 2.5V.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks revealed broken wires, chafing, or corroded connectors in the CAN harness leading to the SFA module, repair or replace the affected harness sections.

   Replace Terminating Resistor

   If the resistance test showed 120 ohms, locate and replace the faulty CAN bus terminating resistor.

   Replace the Module

   If the wiring, terminating resistors, and power/ground supplies are all verified as good, but the SFA module still fails to communicate, the SFA control unit has suffered an internal failure and must be replaced.

   Reassembly and Clearing Codes

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the key switch to the ON position. Use John Deere Service ADVISOR™ or the Standard Display Monitor (SDM) to clear the stored diagnostic trouble codes.

   Operational Checkout

   Start the engine and perform a test drive or operational checkout of the front axle suspension/chassis systems to ensure the code does not return.
