John Deere 2049.09 – TID (Direct Drive Gear Shift Module / Transmission Control Module): Incorrect CAN Bus Message, Information from OIC Control Software / CAB Message Missing
Issue description
There is a data transfer problem between the TID control software and the OIC (Operator Interface Control) software. The reception of messages from the OIC control software over the CAN bus is intermittent or non-existent, indicating an open circuit in the CAN bus, a short circuit, or faulty CAN bus terminating resistors.

Check the cause
Check fuses F22, F30, and F35 that supply power to the CAB and transmission control units
Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness between the TID and the OIC/CAB for physical damage, chafing, loose connections, or corrosion
Test for open or short circuits in the CAN bus line using a multimeter
Verify CAN bus terminating resistors with the battery disconnected (should read approximately 60 ohms across CAN High and CAN Low)
Check for sources of electrical interference and ensure proper grounding and shielding of CAN bus cables
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts during testing.
Fuse Replacement
If fuse F22, F30, or F35 is blown, replace it. Reconnect the battery, restart the tractor, and see if the code clears.
Harness Repair
If the fuses are intact, locate the CAN bus wiring harness connecting the TID and OIC modules. If you find chafed wires or loose connector pins during your diagnostic checks, repair or replace the compromised wiring.
Resistor Replacement
If your multimeter test revealed improper CAN bus resistance (e.g., 120 ohms), locate the faulty CAN bus terminating resistor (often located near the ECU or at the ends of the main harness) and replace it.
Software Update
If the wiring and resistors are perfectly intact, the issue may be a software glitch. Install any available updates or patches for the OIC and TID control software using John Deere Service ADVISOR.
Clear and Test
Reconnect the battery, clear the fault codes, and test drive the tractor. If the code returns and transmission functions remain limited, the TID or OIC module itself may have suffered an internal CAN transceiver failure and will require replacement by a certified dealer.
