John Deere 2055.06 – RLC: RLC Circuit Current High

Issue description

The electrical current draw on the circuit controlled by the RLC module has exceeded the normal operating threshold (over 16 Volts/high current), or there is a data transfer/communication problem on the CAN bus network causing the control software to register a fault.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R
  • 8245R through 8400R
  • 9470RT
  • 9520RT
  • 9570RT
  • 6110R through 6215R

Check the cause

  1. Inspect all CAN bus connections between the Central Control Unit (CCU) and the RLC control software for signs of damage, loose connections, or corrosion.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the Cab Roof Module for any signs of wear, damage, or corrosion that could cause a short circuit.

  3. Use a CAN bus analyzer to test the network for intermittent connections or data transfer issues.

  4. Ensure there are no sources of electrical interference near the CAN bus network that could be causing communication errors.

Repair steps

  1. Secure or Replace Connectors

If loose or corroded connectors are found during the inspection, clean, secure, or replace the compromised pins/connectors.

  2. Repair Wiring

Repair or replace any compromised wiring in the harness that is causing the high current condition.

  3. Update Control Software

Make sure both the CCU and RLC control software are updated to the latest versions to address any potential issues with CAN message processing.

  4. Replace Module

If the wiring and software are intact but the RLC continues to draw excessive current, the internal circuitry of the RLC module has likely failed and the module must be replaced.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Cab Roof Module (RLC) / Roof Lighting Controller

When replacing the RLC, ensure the new module is programmed/configured to the specific vehicle's lighting setup (e.g., driving lights, loader flood lights, dome lights) as the RLC controls these specific circuits.
