John Deere 2055.09 – CLC (Cab Load Center): RLC Message Missing

Issue description

CAN bus communication failure where the main cab controller has stopped receiving data messages from the Cab Roof Module (Source Address 55).

Check the cause

  1. Cycle the key switch off and back on to see if communication resets

  2. Check for related voltage codes (e.g., 000158.01 or 000158.18) and verify battery/alternator output

  3. Inspect fuses and relays in the Cab Load Center that supply power to the roof module

  4. Test the CAN High and CAN Low wires between the CLC and RLC for continuity, high resistance, or shorts

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical damage.

  2. Access the Modules

Locate the Cab Load Center (usually behind the seat or right-hand console) and the Cab Roof Module (RLC), which requires removing the inner roof/headliner panels.

  3. Inspect Connectors

Disconnect the wiring harnesses at both the CLC and RLC. Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture intrusion, or pushed-out pins. Clean with contact cleaner if necessary.

  4. Verify Power and Ground

Reconnect the battery temporarily and turn the key to ON. Probe the power and ground pins at the RLC connector to ensure the module is receiving full battery voltage and has a clean ground to the chassis.

  5. Repair Wiring

If power, ground, or CAN bus continuity fails, trace the cab wiring harness and repair any chafed, broken, or pinched wires.

  6. Replace the RLC

If the wiring harness is fully intact, the connectors are clean, and the RLC is receiving proper power and ground but still won't communicate, the Cab Roof Module (RLC) has failed internally and must be replaced.

  7. Reprogramming

Install the new RLC. Note that a new module may require software calibration/programming by a John Deere dealer using the Service ADVISOR tool to sync with the tractor's specific lighting and HVAC configuration.
