John Deere 2071.09 – CSC, BRC, SCO / SCU, ECU, or PL1: CCU Message Missing

A module on the machine's Controller Area Network (CAN) bus has lost communication with the CCU. The reporting module is disabling its functions as a safety precaution because it is not receiving the critical data it needs from the chassis system.

   Cycle the power by restarting the engine to verify if the active service code reappears

   Inspect all CAN bus wiring and connections between the reporting module (e.g., CSC) and the CCU for chafing, damage, loose pins, or corrosion

   Verify that the CCU is receiving proper unswitched and switched power, and has a solid ground connection (check relevant fuses such as F3 or F23)

   Ensure the software on both the reporting module and the CCU is up to date to resolve potential compatibility bugs

   Use John Deere Service ADVISOR to monitor CAN bus communication and isolate whether the CCU is broadcasting or if the network is dropping packets

   Power Down

   Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

   Harness Repair

   If the diagnostic checks reveal damaged wiring between the CSC and CCU, repair the broken wires using approved CAN bus repair methods (twisted pair, proper shielding) or replace the affected harness section.

   Clean Connectors

   Disconnect the harness at the CCU and the CSC. Clean the pins with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease before reconnecting. Ensure they are fully seated and locked.

   Module Replacement

   If the wiring is perfectly intact, the CAN terminators are functioning, and the CCU is receiving power/ground but not transmitting data, the CCU has likely failed internally and requires replacement.
