Check the cause
Restart the machine by recycling the key switch to reset communication messages between modules
Visually inspect around the batteries and alternator for any signs of damage or accumulated debris that could cause voltage drops
Check fuses associated with the control units (e.g., F6, F22, F23, F28, F29, F30, or F35 depending on the model)
Inspect CAN Bus communication lines between the HCC and the CCU for any damage, loose connections, or interference
Verify that both the HCC and CCU are running the latest software versions
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during testing.
Wiring & Connector Repair
Examine all wiring and connectors associated with the HCC and CCU. Look for open circuits, short circuits, or faulty CAN Bus terminating resistors. Repair or replace any damaged wiring harnesses or loose pins.
Fuse Replacement
If any of the aforementioned fuses (e.g., F30 for the HCC/ICU) are blown, replace them and test the circuit for shorts.
Software Update
If the wiring is intact, utilize John Deere diagnostic tools to update the firmware on both the HCC and CCU to address any compatibility issues.
Module Replacement
If the CCU is failing to transmit messages, or if the HCC has an internal hardware failure preventing reception, the faulty control unit must be replaced.
Recalibration
After replacing the HCC or CCU, reset the modules to clear error states and perform a Hitch Control Unit calibration via the CommandCenter or dealer diagnostic tools.
