John Deere 2139.09 – ATC, RLC, HCC, SCC, PDU, or CCU: CSM Message Missing
Issue description
A data transfer problem on the machine's Controller Area Network (CAN) bus indicating the reporting control module has lost communication with the Cab Switch Module (CSM).

Check the cause
Cycle Power: Turn the machine off and back on to see if the communication breakdown is a temporary software glitch.
Verify Wiring Integrity: Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness between the reporting module (e.g., RLC or ATC) and the Cab Switch Module (CSM). Look for signs of wear, chafing, damage, or corrosion.
Check Connectors: Ensure there are no loose connections, backed-out pins, or moisture intrusion at the CSM harness connectors.
Evaluate Power Supply: Verify that the CSM is receiving proper power and ground. If the CSM does not wake up due to a power supply issue, it cannot broadcast CAN messages.
Check for Electrical Interference: Ensure there are no aftermarket electronics or sources of electrical interference near the CAN bus network causing communication drops.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the negative battery cable before servicing electrical components to prevent short circuits.
Access the Modules
Locate the Cab Switch Module (CSM) and the module logging the fault (e.g., the Cab Roof Module/RLC or ATC).
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed damaged CAN wiring or corroded connector pins, repair the harness or replace the connector pigtail as necessary.
Replace the CSM
If the wiring, power, and ground to the CSM are all intact but the module still fails to communicate on the CAN bus, the CSM has likely suffered an internal failure and must be replaced.
Reassemble and Reconnect
Plug in the new CSM, secure all panels, and reconnect the battery.
Clear Codes and Calibrate
Use the in-cab monitor or John Deere Service ADVISOR to clear the stored 002139.09 fault code. Some replacement modules may require software flashing or calibration via Service ADVISOR to pair with the machine's specific configuration.
Test Operation
Start the machine and verify that all cab switch functions operate normally and the fault code does not return.
