John Deere 2139.09 – SCC: CSM Message Missing

A control unit on the machine's Controller Area Network (CAN) bus has lost communication with the Cab Switch Module (CSM) and is no longer receiving required operational data (such as wheel speed, switch statuses, or command inputs).

   Scan the tractor to see if other modules (PDU, ATC, CCU) are also logging the 002139.09 code to determine if the issue is the CSM itself or isolated to the SCC.

   Visually inspect the CAN bus wiring harness and connectors between the Cab Switch Module (CSM) and the Rear Chassis Module (SCC) for signs of chafing, corrosion, or loose pins.

   Ensure the CSM is receiving proper unswitched and switched supply voltage, and has a clean ground connection.

   Verify that the software versions for both the SCC and CSM are up to date.

   System Reset

   Perform a battery disconnect or system reset to attempt to re-establish communication between the SCC and CSM.

   Clean and Secure Connections

   Disconnect the harness connectors at both the CSM (in the cab/armrest) and the SCC (rear chassis). Apply electrical contact cleaner, ensure no pins are pushed back, and reconnect them securely.

   Repair CAN Harness

   If diagnostic multimeter testing reveals high resistance, a short, or an open circuit on the CAN High or CAN Low wires between the cab and the rear chassis, repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness.

   Replace the CSM

   If the wiring, power, and ground are all verified as good, but the CSM is still failing to broadcast messages to the SCC (or other modules), the Cab Switch Module has failed internally and must be replaced.

   Configuration / Calibration

   If a new CSM is installed, it must be configured using John Deere Service ADVISOR to set the Device ID Address, Option Presence Configuration, and calibrate the controls.
