Check the cause

  1. Power Cycle / Soft Reset: Cycle the tractor's key power to see if the fault is active or stored to rule out a transient communication glitch.

  2. Check for Accompanying Codes: Use the display to check if other modules (PDU, HCC, CLC) are also reporting 2140.09. If multiple modules cannot see the AIC, the issue is isolated to the AIC module or its direct harness.

  3. Power and Ground Verification: Verify the AIC module's power supply and ground circuits. A blown fuse or lost ground will cause the module to power down and stop broadcasting.

  4. Inspect CAN Bus Wiring: Inspect the wiring harness routing to the armrest (AIC). Look for wire chafing, pinching, or connector strain at the pivot points.

  5. Check for Interference: Identify and eliminate sources of electrical interference that may disrupt CAN Bus communication, ensuring proper grounding and shielding.

Repair steps

  1. Access the Harness

    Remove the necessary trim panels to access the wiring harness connecting the main cab harness to the CommandARM / Armrest Interface Control Unit (AIC).

  2. Inspect Connectors

    Disconnect the AIC connectors. Inspect the pins for being pushed back, bent, or corroded. Clean with electrical contact cleaner and ensure pins are fully seated in the plastic connector housing.

  3. Test Power & Ground

    With the key ON, use a multimeter to verify that the AIC connector is receiving 12V system power and has a clean ground. If power is missing, trace the circuit back to the cab fuse panel and replace any blown fuses or repair broken supply wires.

  4. Test CAN Lines

    Perform a continuity and resistance test on the CAN High and CAN Low wires between the AIC connector and the TIQ/Cab harness. The CAN bus should show approximately 60 ohms of resistance across CAN High and CAN Low with the battery disconnected. Repair any open or shorted wires.

  5. Replace Module

    If the wiring, power, and ground are all verified as good, but the AIC is still not communicating on the CAN bus, the AIC module has failed internally.

  6. Software Calibration

    If the AIC module is replaced, connect John Deere Service ADVISOR to program the new module, calibrate the armrest controls, and clear the stored fault codes.
