John Deere 2152.09 – HCC (Hitch Control Unit / Hitch Control Console): HV I Message Missing

The Hitch Control Unit (HCC) is not receiving the required CAN bus communication messages from the rear hitch control valve (HV I). The HCC function is completely disabled (turned OFF) while this error code is active.

   Inspect the CAN bus communication lines between the Hitch Control Unit (HCC) and the hitch control valve (HV I) for physical damage, chafing, or interference.

   Inspect the wiring harness connectors at both the HCC and the HV I valve for loose pins, corrosion, or moisture intrusion.

   Ensure the HV I valve is receiving proper supply voltage and has a solid ground, as it cannot broadcast CAN messages without power.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during inspection.

   Harness Repair

   If the diagnostic checks reveal damaged CAN bus wires (CAN High or CAN Low) or power/ground wires between the HCC and HV I, repair or replace the affected wiring harness section.

   Clean Connections

   If connectors are dirty or corroded, clean them with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease before reconnecting.

   Component Replacement

   If the wiring and voltages are verified as good, the fault lies within the internal electronics of either the Hitch Control Valve (HV I) failing to send the signal, or the Hitch Control Unit (HCC) failing to receive it. Replace the faulty component (usually the HV I valve if it is unresponsive to CAN pings).

   Recalibration

   After replacing the HCC or HV I valve, use a John Deere Service ADVISOR tool to clear the codes and perform the Rear Hitch Calibration procedure.
