John Deere 2161.09 – TID (Direct Drive Gear Shift Module): CAN BUS Message Fault - Incorrect CAN Bus Message, Information from SV1 Control Software

The control software has detected a data transfer problem between the TID (Direct Drive Gear Shift Module) and the SV1 (Selective Control Valve 1). This communication failure is typically caused by an open circuit in the CAN bus, a short circuit, faulty CAN bus terminators, or a software glitch, which may limit or completely disable transmission functions.

   Inspect CAN Bus Wiring between the TID and SV1 for physical damage, loose connections, or corrosion

   Check for open circuits in the CAN bus line using a multimeter or diagnostic tool

   Inspect for short circuits in the CAN bus wiring, ensuring all wires are properly insulated

   Verify CAN Bus terminating resistors for proper installation and functionality

   Check if the SV1 control software is updated to the latest version

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during testing.

   Harness Inspection & Repair

   Locate the wiring harness connecting the TID and SV1. If you found chafed wires, corrosion, or loose pins during the diagnostic phase, repair or replace the compromised wiring.

   Test and Replace Terminators

   Locate the CAN bus terminating resistors on the network. Test the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins (with the battery disconnected, a healthy CAN network should read approximately 60 ohms). If the reading is out of spec, replace the faulty CAN bus terminator.

   Software Update

   Reconnect the battery. Connect the John Deere Service ADVISOR diagnostic tool and flash the SV1 control software to the latest version.

   Clear and Test

   Clear the 002161.09 fault code from the TID module. Test drive the tractor, shifting through the Direct Drive gears to ensure transmission functions are fully restored and the code does not return.
