Check the cause

  1. Check for accompanying codes logged against SV II (such as voltage or position errors) which may indicate an internal valve failure

  2. Visually inspect Selective Control Valve II at the rear hydraulic block for physical damage, heavy debris, or fluid intrusion into the electrical connector

  3. Verify that the SV II module is receiving proper unswitched and switched supply voltage

  4. Inspect CAN Bus wiring and connectors (CAN High and CAN Low wires) between the SCC and SV II for chafed wires, corrosion, bent pins, or loose connections

  5. Ensure that both the SCC and the SV II have the latest firmware updates installed via John Deere Service Advisor

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

    Park the machine on a level surface, lower all implements, turn off the engine, and cycle the SCV levers to relieve any trapped hydraulic pressure.

  2. Access the SCV Stack

    Locate the rear SCV stack and identify Valve #2 (SV II).

  3. Harness Disconnection & Cleaning

    Disconnect the electrical harness from the SV II stepper motor/controller. Clean the connector with electrical contact cleaner. Inspect for pushed-back pins or green corrosion.

  4. Continuity Testing

    Using a digital multimeter, test the CAN High and CAN Low circuits from the SV II connector back to the SCC harness connector. Repair any open circuits or shorts to ground.

  5. Test Resistance

    With the battery disconnected, measure the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins. A healthy CAN bus should read approximately 60 ohms. If it reads 120 ohms, a terminating resistor or a segment of the bus is broken.

  6. Component Replacement

    If the wiring harness, power, and ground are all verified to be in good working order, the communication failure is internal to the SV II electronic control module (often integrated into the SCV stepper motor). Replace the SV II control unit/stepper motor.

  7. Calibration

    After replacing the valve or repairing the wiring, power on the machine. Clear the stored fault codes. You must perform an SCV calibration procedure through the CommandCenter display or John Deere Service Advisor to teach the SCC the new valve's parameters.
