2165.09

John Deere 2165.09 – SCC (Selective Control Unit): SV V Message Missing

Issue description

The Selective Control Unit (SCC) has lost CAN bus communication with Selective Control Valve V (SV V). Because the SCC is not receiving the required operational messages from the SV V unit, it will automatically disable its functions and turn off the affected valve to prevent erratic operation or further damage.

Check the cause

  1. Check for associated codes in the Vehicle Load Center (VLC) or SCC to rule out shared power/ground or main CAN bus line issues

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors from the SCC to the SV V unit for pinched wires, corrosion, or backed-out pins

  3. Verify the SV V unit is receiving proper switched and unswitched supply voltage and ground

  4. Use John Deere Service ADVISOR to verify if control signals are being transmitted from the SCV control lever in the cab to the SCC

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Hydraulic Pressure

Before disconnecting any hydraulic lines (if valve removal is necessary), shut off the engine, lower all implements, and relieve hydraulic pressure to avoid serious injury.

  2. Repair Wiring

If the diagnostic checks reveal damaged communication links (CAN High/CAN Low) or power wires between the SCC and SV V, repair or replace the affected wiring harness segment.

  3. Update Software

If the wiring is intact, connect John Deere Service ADVISOR and check the firmware versions of the SCC and SV V. Flash the latest software updates, as communication timeouts can sometimes be resolved via software patches.

  4. Replace the SCV Electronic Control Unit

If the wiring is good and software is up to date, the electronic control unit on the SV V valve has likely failed internally. Remove the faulty SCV controller/pilot valve from the valve stack and install the replacement.

  5. Calibrate the System

After replacing the SCV controller, use the diagnostic tool to clear the 002165.09 code and perform an SCV calibration procedure so the SCC can recognize the new valve's limits and spool positions.
