John Deere 2170.09 – SCC or SCO: CAN Bus Message Cannot Be Received, Information from E-SCV X
Issue description
The tractor's network has lost communication with the electronic control unit for SCV 10 (E-SCV X), indicating an abnormal update rate, communication error, or missing message.

Check the cause
Check for voltage and ground at the SCV 10 connector.
Inspect the ground eyelets (e.g., Wire #0330A) leading to the Rear Chassis Controller for breaks or looseness. Wiggle battery cables and ground wires to see if CAN bus error rates spike.
Inspect the chassis harness running between the Rear Chassis Controller (SCC) and the SCV block for chafing, breaks, or corrosion, especially at the frame connectors behind the SCVs.
Test CAN Bus communication voltages and error rates using a diagnostic tool or CAN Communication Health Wizard.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
Locate the Components
Locate the E-SCV X (SCV 10) valve on the rear hydraulic block and the Rear Chassis Controller (SCC), typically located under the panel behind the cab.
Repair Wiring
If you found a broken ground eyelet or corroded frame connector during diagnostics, strip back the damaged section of the wire, crimp on a new eyelet terminal, apply heat shrink tubing, and secure it to a clean ground.
Bypass Test
If the harness is broken internally, temporarily jump power/ground from an unused SCV connector to SCV 10 to verify if the valve itself is still good. If it works, you must repair or replace the rear chassis harness.
Replace the SCV Stepper Motor
If wiring, power, and ground are all intact, the E-SCV X control unit has failed internally. Unbolt the faulty E-SCV stepper motor from the hydraulic valve block and install the replacement unit.
Reassemble and Power Up
Reconnect the battery and turn the key on.
Calibrate the SCV
Perform an SCV calibration using the CommandCenter display or John Deere Service ADVISOR to resolve the resulting calibration fault (e.g., SCO 516454.13).
Clear Codes
Clear the 002170.09 fault code and test the SCV 10 remote for proper operation.
