John Deere 2170.09 – SCO: CAN Bus Message Cannot Be Received, Information from E-SCV X

Issue description

Data transfer problem or communication loss between the control software and the E-SCV X, resulting in limited or no function of the selective control valve (E-SCV 10).

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R
  • 8235R
  • 8245R
  • 8260R
  • 8285R
  • 8310R
  • 8335R
  • 8360R
  • 8400R

Check the cause

  1. Inspect CAN Bus wiring between the SCO module and the E-SCV 10 for signs of damage, loose connections, or corrosion.

  2. Test the CAN Bus network for proper communication and address any voltage or resistance faults detected on the network.

  3. Verify that the E-SCV 10 control unit is receiving power and ground. Check for any blown fuses related to the SCV or SCO module.

Repair steps

  1. Secure and Repair Wiring

If any damaged wiring, loose pins, or corroded connectors were found during the diagnostic checks, repair or replace the affected harness sections.

  2. Recalibrate the Unit

If the wiring is intact, attempt to recalibrate the E-SCV 10 unit using a John Deere diagnostic tool (like Service ADVISOR).

  3. Replace the E-SCV

If the E-SCV 10 control unit fails to recalibrate, is completely unresponsive to the CAN network, or has an internal failure, replace the E-SCV unit.

  4. Replace the SCO Controller

If multiple SCVs are dropping off the CAN bus simultaneously and the wiring is verified good, the SCO controller itself may be at fault and require replacement.

  5. Clear Codes and Test

After repairs or part replacements, clear the fault codes and operate the SCV 10 to verify that full functionality has been restored.

Parts you might need
