Check the cause

  1. Perform a soft reset by restarting the engine to verify if the active Service Code reappears

  2. Check Fuse F23, which provides power to the TEC and related communication circuits

  3. Look for companion code 002255.09 (No CAN messages received from any source), which indicates the entire CAN bus network is down

  4. Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness connecting the TEC to the RLC and the main bus for loose wiring, faulty connector pins, or signal interference

Repair steps

  1. Cycle power

    Turn the tractor off, wait 30 seconds, and restart it. If the code clears and does not return, it was a transient communication glitch.

  2. Inspect and replace fuses

    Locate the fuse panel and pull Fuse F23. Test it with a multimeter. If blown, replace it. If it blows immediately upon key-on, there is a short to ground in the TEC wiring.

  3. Test harness and connectors

    Disconnect the batteries. Locate the TEC (usually mounted under the cab or near the transmission, depending on the model). Disconnect the TEC harness and check for corrosion or pushed-out pins.

  4. Perform CAN bus resistance test

    With the batteries still disconnected, measure the resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins at the TEC connector. A healthy CAN bus should read approximately 60 ohms. If it reads 120 ohms, a terminating resistor is faulty or the bus is broken. If it reads 0 ohms, the CAN lines are shorted together.

  5. Replace or reprogram TEC module

    If the wiring, resistance, and fuses are all intact, the TEC itself has likely failed internally or requires a software flash. A new TEC will require dealer programming via John Deere Service ADVISOR to pair with the tractor.
