John Deere 2348.05 – BLC, BIF, VLC, or FLC: High Beam Headlights, Current Too Low / High Beam Lamps Open Circuit

The control module has commanded the high beam headlights to turn on, but it is detecting little to no electrical current (amperage) on the high beam circuit pin. This condition is almost always caused by an open circuit—most commonly a blown headlight bulb, a disconnected wiring harness, or severe corrosion/high resistance in a connector.

   Visual Bulb Inspection: Check the high beam filaments in the cab frame or front grille headlights to see if they are broken or burned out.

   Fuse and Relay Check: Verify that the fuses and relays supplying power to the lighting control module and the high beam circuit are intact.

   Circuit Testing: Disconnect the headlight connector. Use a digital multimeter to check for 12V at the high beam pin on the harness side when the high beams are switched on.

   Ground and Resistance Check: Check the ground wire at the headlight connector for continuity to the chassis. Inspect the connector pins for pushed-out terminals, moisture, or green corrosion that could cause high resistance.

   Turn off the machine, lower any implements, and remove the key from the ignition.

   Locate the affected high beam headlight.

   The code often specifies cab frame lights or main driving lights depending on the sub-system.

   Unplug the electrical connector from the rear of the headlight assembly.

   Remove the rubber dust boot (if equipped) and unclip the retaining spring holding the bulb in place.

   Pull the old bulb out of the housing.

   If the bulb was blown, install the new replacement bulb.

   Note: If installing a halogen bulb, do not touch the glass envelope with your bare fingers, as oil from your skin will cause the bulb to overheat and fail prematurely.

   If the bulb was not blown, clean the harness connector with electrical contact cleaner, repair any broken wires found during the diagnostic phase, and apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the pins.

   Re-secure the retaining clip, replace the dust boot, and plug the electrical connector back in.

   Turn the key to the ON position, turn on the high beams, and verify the lights illuminate.

   Cycle the tractor power to clear the active 002348.05 fault code from the CommandCenter/BIF display.
