John Deere 2348.06 – VLC: High Beam Light Circuit Current Problem / High Beam Lamps High Current

The Vehicle Load Center (VLC) control unit has detected that the electrical current in the left or right high beam headlight circuit exceeds the maximum fuse rating (typically 7 amps). This indicates an excessive electrical load, which is usually caused by a short circuit to ground (earth), a faulty bulb drawing too much power, or the installation of incorrect aftermarket accessories. When this fault is active, the VLC will disable the affected high beam lights to prevent circuit damage.

   Examine the wiring and connectors in the high beam light circuit for any signs of short circuits to earth, such as rubbed-through insulation, melted connectors, or exposed wires.

   Check the high beam bulbs to ensure they are not internally shorted or mechanically faulty.

   Use a multimeter to measure the current draw in the high beam circuit to confirm it exceeds the 7-amp threshold.

   Verify that the relay and fuse for the high beam circuit are correctly rated (do not install a higher amperage fuse to bypass the issue).

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery or remove the high beam circuit fuse to ensure safety.

   Isolate the Fault

   Disconnect the high beam headlight bulbs from their harnesses. Reconnect power and turn on the high beams. If the code clears/current drops: The fault is inside one of the bulbs. Replace the faulty bulb(s). If the code persists: The fault is in the wiring harness between the VLC and the headlights.

   Repair Wiring

   Trace the wiring harness from the headlights back to the Vehicle Load Center. Look for pinch points along the chassis or hood hinges where the wire may be shorting to ground. Repair any damaged wires using heat-shrink butt connectors and re-loom the harness.

   Replace any melted bulb sockets, blown fuses, or malfunctioning relays with OEM-rated equivalents.

   Final Test

   Reconnect all components, start the machine, and turn on the high beams. Verify that the lights function properly and that VLC 002348.06 does not return. (If the code persists after verifying perfect wiring and bulbs, the VLC module itself may have an internal fault requiring dealer programming/replacement).
