John Deere 2354.06 – VLC: Front Outer Flood Light Circuit Current Problem

The system has detected that the electrical current (amps) in the left or right front outer flood light circuit (also referred to as the bonnet corner work light) exceeds the maximum allowed threshold. This condition is typically caused by a short circuit to ground (earth) in the wiring harness, a faulty relay, or an internally shorted light bulb drawing excessive amperage.

   Bulb Isolation Test: Unplug the connector at the front outer flood light. Turn the tractor and work lights on. If the active code changes from VLC 002354.06 (Current High) to VLC 002354.05 (Current Low / Open Circuit), the wiring is intact, and the fault is isolated to the bulb or light housing itself.

   Wiring Harness Inspection: If the 002354.06 code remains active while the light is unplugged, the short to ground is located in the wiring harness between the VLC and the light connector. Inspect the chassis-to-hood light harness interconnect for pinched wires, melted insulation, or corrosion.

   Relay and Fuse Check: Verify that the relay and fuse for the front outer flood light circuit are correctly rated and not malfunctioning or bypassed.

   Power Down

   Turn off the engine, place the tractor in park, and remove the key to ensure the circuit is de-energized.

   Access the Light

   Locate the affected front outer flood light (bonnet corner) and disconnect its wiring pigtail.

   Inspect the Connector

   Check the pins on both the harness side and the light side for melting or arcing, which indicates high heat from excessive current draw.

   Test the Circuit

   Use a digital multimeter to measure the current and check for continuity to ground on the power wire of the harness.

   Repair the Fault

   If the light is the issue: Replace the faulty bulb or the entire sealed work light assembly. If the harness is the issue: Trace the wire back to the Vehicle Load Center (VLC). Repair any chafed or exposed sections of the wire and secure it away from pinch points.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the light. Turn the key switch on and acknowledge any Service Alerts on the CommandCenter display. Sometimes, resetting the communication messages by cycling the key switch is required to clear the active code. Test the work lights to confirm the repair.
