John Deere 2358.03 – BLC or RLC: Worklights on Cab Frame or High-Beam Headlights on Cab Frame, External Voltage

Issue description

The controller is detecting voltage on the output pin for the grab rail/cab frame high beams or work lights when the circuit is commanded OFF. This is typically caused by a short-to-power (voltage back feed) in the wiring loom, a stuck relay, or an internal failure within the control module itself.

Check the cause

  1. Locate the load center (BLC/RLC) and identify the relay responsible for the cab frame worklights/high beams. Swap it with a known good relay of the same amperage to check for welded/stuck contacts.

  2. Disconnect the harness from the BLC/RLC and the headlights. Use a multimeter to check for continuity between the worklight power wire and any constant 12V/24V battery sources in the loom (short to power).

  3. With the harness disconnected from the BLC/RLC, turn the machine on (lights commanded OFF) and probe the module's output pin for the worklights. If the module is outputting voltage with the harness disconnected and the switch off, the BLC/RLC has an internal short and must be replaced.

  4. Check the physical light switches and bulk connectors at the cab roof/grab rail for water ingress, corrosion, or melted plastic that could be bridging a constant power wire to the light circuit.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

    Disconnect the negative battery cable before servicing the load center or wiring.

  2. Isolate the Fault

    Based on the diagnostic checks, determine if the fault is in the relay, the harness, or the module.

  3. Relay Replacement

    If the relay was stuck closed, replace it with a new OEM relay.

  4. Harness Repair

    If a short-to-power is found in the loom (often where the harness routes up the cab frame or near the grab rails where chafing occurs), open the wire loom, locate the melted or chafed wires, splice in new wire using weather-sealed heat-shrink butt connectors, and re-wrap the loom securely.

  5. Module Replacement

    If the BLC/RLC is internally shorted, unbolt the load center, carefully disconnect all harness connectors, and install the new module. Note: Replacing a Cab/Roof Load Center may require a John Deere Service Advisor tool to flash the module or configure it to the tractor's specific lighting package.

  6. Verify Repair

    Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and verify the 002358.03 code changes from 'Active' to 'Stored/Inactive'. Test the high beams and work lights for proper operation.
