John Deere 2362.03 – BLC / VCU / FLC: Rear Work Lights Short to Power
Issue description
The control module is detecting external voltage on the pin designated for the rear roof inner work lights when those lights are commanded OFF. This indicates a short circuit to a power source, resulting in a voltage backfeed into the wiring loom.

Check the cause
Verify the Backfeed: Disconnect the rear roof inner work lights. Check if the voltage backfeed remains on the pin at the BLC/VCU module when the light switch is OFF.
Harness Inspection: Visually inspect the wiring loom running from the BLC/VCU to the rear cab corner/roof lights. Look for chafing, melted insulation, or pinch points where the work light wire might be touching a constant 12V/24V power source.
Connector Check: Inspect the connectors at the BLC/VCU and at the work lights for corrosion, moisture ingress, or bent pins that could be bridging a live power pin to the work light pin.
Switch/Relay Check: Ensure that the physical work light switch or relay is not internally shorted and leaking voltage into the circuit.
Repair steps
Isolate Power
Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent further electrical damage or accidental shorts during repair.
Trace the Short
Using a multimeter, trace the wiring harness from the BLC/VCU to the rear roof inner work lights to pinpoint the exact location of the short to power.
Repair the Loom
Once the chafed or melted section of the wiring loom is found, cut out the damaged wire. Splice in a new section of wire using proper weather-sealed heat-shrink butt connectors. If the harness is severely melted, replace that section of the harness entirely.
Module Replacement (If Necessary)
If the wiring loom tests perfectly fine and the voltage is bleeding internally from the BLC itself, the BLC module will need to be replaced.
Test and Clear
Reconnect the battery. Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 002362.03 fault code. Turn the machine on and toggle the rear work lights ON and OFF to verify the voltage backfeed has been eliminated and the code does not return.
