John Deere 2368.06 – VLC: Trailer Left Turn Signal Lights Circuit Current High

Issue description

The control software has detected an electrical overload, which is almost always caused by a short circuit to ground in the left turn signal circuit leading to the trailer socket.

Check the cause

  1. Isolate the trailer by unplugging the 7-pin connector from the tractor's rear socket to verify if the code still exists

  2. Restart the tractor to reset communication messages via a key cycle

  3. Inspect the trailer bulbs and wiring on the implement for blown or internally shorted bulbs (if code clears when unplugged)

  4. Inspect the tractor's 7-pin socket for packed dirt, water intrusion, or corrosion bridging the pins to ground, specifically on Pin 3

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect the Implement

Remove the trailer plug from the tractor's 7-pin receptacle.

  2. Test the Socket

Using a digital multimeter, test Pin 3 (Left Turn Signal) on the tractor's 7-pin socket for continuity to ground.

  3. Examine the Receptacle

Remove the mounting screws holding the 7-pin socket to the rear chassis. Pull the socket out and inspect the wiring connections on the back. If the terminals are heavily corroded, melted, or touching each other, the socket must be replaced.

  4. Trace the Harness

If the socket is in good condition, trace the wiring harness from the back of the 7-pin socket to the Vehicle Load Center (VLC) module. Look for pinched wires or chafed insulation rubbing against the tractor chassis, which would cause a short to ground.

  5. Repair and Clear

Repair any damaged wiring or replace the 7-pin socket assembly. Reconnect the harness, turn on the tractor, and clear the stored diagnostic codes via the CommandCenter display.

  6. Verify

Activate the left turn signal to ensure the code does not return before plugging the implement back in.
