John Deere 2376.06 – CLC (Cab Load Center): Trailer Brake Lights Circuit Current High

Issue description

The controller has detected an electrical current draw on the trailer brake light circuit that exceeds the maximum allowable threshold. This is typically caused by a short circuit to ground, a defective light bulb, or an overloaded circuit.

Check the cause

  1. Disconnect the trailer or implement from the tractor's 7-pin connector. Clear the code or cycle the key, then apply the brakes. If the code does not return, the short circuit or overload is in the trailer's wiring or light bulbs.

  2. If the fault is on the trailer, check the condition of the trailer brake light bulbs. A defective or internally shorted bulb is a common cause.

  3. If the code persists with the trailer disconnected, inspect the tractor's 7-pin trailer outlet. Look for dirt, water intrusion, corrosion, or bent pins that could be bridging the brake light pin to the ground pin.

  4. Trace the wiring harness from the 7-pin connector back to the Cab Load Center. Look for pinched, chafed, or melted wires causing a short to the tractor's chassis.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

    Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent further electrical damage during repair.

  2. Resolve Trailer Issues

    If the diagnostic checks isolated the issue to the trailer, replace any blown/shorted brake light bulbs and repair any damaged wiring on the implement.

  3. Clean or Replace the 7-Pin Receptacle

    If the tractor's 7-pin connector is heavily corroded or internally shorted, unbolt it from the rear of the tractor, disconnect the pigtail, and install a new 7-pin socket.

  4. Repair the Harness

    If a short to ground is found in the wiring harness between the CLC and the rear connector, splice and heat-shrink the damaged wire, or replace the affected harness section.

  5. Replace the Cab Load Center

    If the wiring and connectors test perfectly fine but the CLC continues to output a high-current fault on that circuit, the internal driver inside the CLC has failed. The Cab Load Center will need to be replaced and reprogrammed by a dealer.

  6. Test

    Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and apply the brakes to verify the 002376.06 code has cleared.
