2386.06

John Deere 2386.06 – RLC, CLC, or CAB: Rotary Beacon Circuit Fault / Beacon Light High Current

Issue description

The current draw on the beacon light circuit is too high (overcurrent). This typically indicates a short to ground in the wiring harness or an internal short within the beacon light assembly/bulb itself.

Check the cause

  1. Check the condition of the beacon light bulb and the internal socket for melting, corrosion, or an obvious internal short.

  2. Disconnect the beacon light assembly from the cab roof harness, turn the machine on, and activate the beacon switch. If the code goes inactive or changes to an open circuit code, the short is inside the beacon light assembly.

  3. Inspect the cab roof wiring harness for chafing, pinched wires, or exposed copper touching the cab frame (if the code remains active after disconnecting the beacon).

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent further damage to the RLC/CLC module.

  2. Access the Beacon

Safely access the cab roof. Remove the amber safety lens from the rotary beacon assembly.

  3. Replace Bulb/Assembly

If the diagnostic checks pointed to the light itself, replace the bulb. If the internal motor or socket of the rotary beacon is seized or shorted, replace the entire beacon light assembly.

  4. Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

If the harness is shorted to ground, locate the chafed section of the wire. Splice and heat-shrink the damaged wire, then secure the harness with zip ties to prevent it from rubbing against the cab frame.

  5. Test

Reconnect the battery, start the engine, and turn on the beacon light. Verify that the light rotates/flashes and that the 002386.06 code has cleared from the CommandCenter/Dash display.
