John Deere 2390.05 – RLC: License Plate Light Current Low

The control software registers that the electrical current draw to the license plate light is lower than expected. This underlying condition almost always indicates an open circuit, which is most commonly caused by a blown light bulb, a disconnected wire, or a corroded socket.

   Cycle the key switch or follow the CommandCenter™ prompt to cycle tractor power to see if the code clears

   Inspect the license plate light bulb to see if the filament is broken or burned out

   Perform an RLC—License Plate Light Circuit Test using a multimeter to check the wiring harness between the RLC module and the light socket for continuity

   Check the bulb socket for dirt, moisture, or corrosion that could be preventing electrical contact

   Depower the electrical system

   Turn off the tractor and remove the key to ensure the electrical system is depowered.

   Locate the light assembly

   Locate the license plate light assembly at the rear of the tractor.

   Remove the protective lens

   Unscrew or unclip the protective lens covering the license plate light.

   Remove the bulb

   Remove the bulb from the socket.

   Replace bulb or clean socket

   If the bulb is blown, replace it with a new one. If the socket is corroded, clean the contacts with a wire brush and electrical contact cleaner before installing the new bulb.

   Inspect and repair wiring

   If the bulb was not the issue, trace the wiring back toward the cab roof (RLC module) and repair any severed wires or re-seat any loose harness connectors.

   Reinstall the lens

   Reinstall the light lens/cover.

   Verify the repair

   Turn the key switch on to cycle the tractor power. Verify that the license plate light illuminates and the 002390.05 fault code clears from the CommandCenter™ display.
