Issue description

The system has detected an abnormally high amp draw in the reverse alarm or backup light circuit, which typically indicates that the circuit's wiring is shorting to a ground source, or the alarm/light component itself has failed internally and is drawing excessive current.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the entire backup light and reverse alarm wiring harness for chafing, cuts, or exposed wire braid that could be causing a short to ground.

  2. Disconnect the reverse alarm and backup lights, then use a multimeter to check the circuit for continuity to ground. If the short disappears when unplugged, the component is internally shorted.

  3. Consult the Transmission Control Circuit Theory of Operation and Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) Circuit Theory of Operation to trace the exact pinouts from the CLC to the rear alarm.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect the battery and relieve hydraulic pressure.

    Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical sparks or battery gas explosions. If working near hydraulic lines, ensure the machine is off and hydraulic pressure is relieved, as high-pressure fluid can cause severe injury.

  2. Locate the reverse alarm and backup light assemblies.

    Locate the reverse alarm (usually mounted at the rear of the machine or inside the rear bumper area) and the backup light assemblies.

  3. Repair or replace the wiring harness.

    If the Wire Harness Test revealed a short to ground (e.g., rubbed-through insulation touching the chassis), splice and repair the damaged wire using John Deere approved heat-shrink connectors, or replace the affected harness section.

  4. Replace the faulty reverse alarm or backup light.

    If the wiring is intact but the alarm or light is internally shorted, unbolt the faulty reverse alarm or backup light and install the replacement part.

  5. Reassemble and test the circuit.

    Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and shift the machine into reverse (ensure the area is clear). Verify that the alarm sounds, the backup lights illuminate, and the 002392.06 code changes to "Stored" or clears entirely.
