John Deere 2396.05 – BLC / RLC: Inner Worklights on Front of Roof, Current Too Low
Issue description
The controller monitors the electrical current drawn by the worklights when they are switched on. The ".05" extension specifically means the current is lower than expected, which typically points to an open circuit. The most common cause is a blown bulb, but it can also be caused by a disconnected plug, a broken wire, or high resistance (corrosion) in a connector.

Check the cause
Turn on the worklights and visually confirm if one or both of the front inner roof worklights are out
Remove the bulb from the affected worklight and inspect the filament for breakage (most likely cause)
Inspect the wiring harness connector at the worklight for pushed-back pins, moisture intrusion, or green corrosion
Check the wiring harness for continuity between the BLC/RLC module and the roof worklight to rule out a broken wire
Repair steps
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and allow the worklight housing to cool down if it was recently on.
Safety precaution before starting the repair.
Access the front inner roof worklights (you may need a safe step ladder depending on the cab height).
Gain physical access to the affected worklights.
Remove the worklight bezel/cover or unclip the rear housing to access the bulb socket.
Open the housing to reach the internal components.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the bulb.
Separate the wiring harness from the bulb.
Twist and pull the bulb out of the housing.
Remove the bulb for inspection or replacement.
If the bulb is blown, install a new OEM replacement bulb.
Note: Do not touch the glass of a new halogen bulb with your bare fingers, as oil from your skin can cause premature failure.
If the bulb was not blown, use a contact cleaner to clean the connector terminals, apply a small amount of dielectric grease, and reconnect.
Addresses high resistance or corrosion in the connector.
Reassemble the worklight housing.
Put the bezel/cover or rear housing back together.
Turn the tractor key switch on and test the worklights.
The BLC/RLC will detect the correct current draw and the active fault code should clear after cycling the tractor power.
