John Deere 2398.05 – BLC / RLC: Outer Worklights on Front of Roof, Current Too Low

When the operator turns on the work lights, the control module monitors the electrical current flowing through the circuit. The ".05" extension specifically indicates that the current is below the expected threshold (low amps). The underlying condition is typically an open circuit caused by a blown bulb, a disconnected wiring harness, or high resistance in a connector.

   Bulb Check: Visually inspect the front roof outer work light bulbs for a blown bulb.

   Connector Inspection: Check the connectors at the roof work light assemblies for loose connections, moisture ingress, or corrosion that could cause high resistance.

   Harness Check: Inspect the wiring harness running from the roof lights to the BLC/RLC module for chafing, cuts, or pinched wires that could cause an open circuit.

   Power Cycle: After checking the bulb or reducing electrical load, cycle the key switch (turn the tractor off and back on) to see if the module resets and clears the code.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and ensure the lighting switch is in the OFF position.

   Access the Light

   Safely access the front roof outer work light assembly. Remove the bezel/surround if necessary.

   Replace the Bulb/Assembly

   Disconnect the wiring pigtail from the light. If it is a halogen unit, replace the blown bulb. If it is a sealed LED unit, replace the entire work light assembly.

   Clean Connectors

   Before plugging the new bulb or assembly in, spray the connector pins with electrical contact cleaner. Ensure the weather-pack seals are intact to prevent future moisture intrusion.

   Repair Wiring (If Necessary)

   If the bulb was not blown, use a multimeter to check for continuity between the light connector and the BLC/RLC module. Splice and heat-shrink any broken wires found in the harness.

   Test

   Reconnect the light, turn the tractor key to the ON position, and turn on the work lights. Verify that the lights illuminate and the 002398.05 code moves to "Stored" or clears entirely from the CommandCenter™ display.
