John Deere 247.09 – CCU or ICC: Engine Total Hours of Operation, Abnormal Update Rate
Issue description
Engine hour meter data is either completely missing or updating at an abnormal rate over the machine's Controller Area Network (CAN) bus. The receiving module is expecting a regular broadcast of the engine's operating hours from the Engine Control Unit (ECU), but the message is either corrupted, delayed, or absent.

Check the cause
Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness between the Engine Control Unit (ECU) and the CCU/ICC for physical damage, chafing, or pinched wires.
Check for loose connections, pushed-out pins, or corrosion at the ECU and CCU/ICC harness connectors. Ensure all connectors are properly seated and locked.
Verify the machine's battery voltage is within the normal operating range (12V-14V), as voltage spikes or drops can disrupt CAN bus communications.
Test the hour meter sensor or ECU output using a diagnostic scan tool (like Service ADVISOR) to verify if the engine hour data is actually being generated and broadcasted.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the negative battery cable before servicing any CAN bus wiring or control modules.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed broken, corroded, or shorted wires in the CAN bus harness, repair the wiring using OEM-approved splicing methods or replace the affected harness section.
Clean Connections
Use electrical contact cleaner on the ECU and CCU/ICC connectors. Apply dielectric grease to prevent future moisture intrusion.
Replace Faulty Sensors/Modules
If the wiring is intact but the ECU is failing to broadcast the hour meter data (or the dedicated sensor has failed), replace the faulty component.
Clear Codes and Test
Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 000247.09 fault code. Start the engine and verify that the hour meter on the dash resumes updating and the code does not return.
