John Deere 002646.03 – SCC: High Voltage On Rear SCV Valves 1,2,5

Issue description

The monitoring system has detected a high voltage condition in the electrical circuit for the rear Selective Control Valves (SCVs) at positions 1, 2, and 5. This indicates an electrical fault, such as a short circuit to a power source or an internal failure within an electrical component, rather than a hydraulic issue.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harnesses and connectors associated with SCV valves 1, 2, and 5 for pinched or frayed wires, corrosion, or loose connections.

  2. Using a multimeter, test the signal wire for each affected SCV solenoid for a short circuit to a power source (voltage present when it should not be).

  3. Disconnect the wiring harness from both the SCC and the SCV valves to check for continuity and shorts between wires in the harness.

  4. Test the resistance of the solenoids for SCV valves 1, 2, and 5 to check for an out-of-specification reading indicating an internal short.

  5. Swap the solenoid from one of the faulting SCVs with a known good SCV (e.g., SCV 3 or 4) to isolate the component. If the fault follows the solenoid, it is faulty.

Repair steps

  1. Prepare machine and relieve pressure

Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Relieve any residual hydraulic pressure by moving the SCV control levers back and forth several times.

  2. Access rear SCV block

Remove any necessary protective covers to access the rear SCV block and its electrical connectors.

  3. Repair or replace wiring

If diagnostic checks revealed a damaged wiring harness or connector, repair or replace the affected section (a conversion wiring harness may be available). Ensure all connections are clean and secure.

  4. Replace faulty solenoid

If a solenoid is identified as faulty, disconnect its electrical connector and remove it from the valve block. Install the new solenoid, ensuring seals or O-rings are correctly seated, and reconnect.

  5. Replace SCV valve assembly

If there is an internal failure within the valve block that cannot be repaired by replacing external components, replace the entire SCV valve assembly.

  6. Clear fault codes

Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and use the tractor's diagnostic system or a compatible scan tool to clear the fault code.

  7. Verify repair

Operate the affected SCVs to ensure they are functioning correctly and that the fault code does not reappear.
