John Deere 27.07 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Engine EGR Valve Position Does Match The ECU Requested Position

The engine control system has detected that the EGR valve actuator is not responding correctly or is out of adjustment. The actual physical position of the valve does not match the position the computer is requesting, typically caused by mechanical failure, a sensor error, software issues, or heavy soot/carbon buildup (coking) physically jamming the valve.

   Check for soot accumulation (coking) in the EGR valve and cooler, which can cause physical blockages preventing the valve from opening or closing.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the EGR valve actuator for shorts, opens, or swapped connectors.

   Using John Deere Service ADVISOR or a compatible diagnostic tool, run an actuator test to command the EGR valve open and closed while monitoring desired versus actual position data.

   Check for accompanying codes like SPN 2659 (EGR Flow Correction) or sensor voltage codes (27.03 / 27.04), which might point to an electrical short rather than a mechanical jam.

   Safety First

   Ensure the engine is off and completely cooled down, as the EGR system handles extremely hot exhaust gases.

   Clean the System

   If the diagnostic check reveals heavy soot deposits but the actuator motor still functions, remove the EGR valve and EGR cooler. Clean the soot deposits thoroughly using approved solvents.

   Replace the EGR Valve

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the EGR valve actuator. Remove the mounting bolts and the EGR heat shield (if equipped). Remove the faulty EGR valve and discard the old metal gasket. Clean the mating surfaces on the intake/exhaust manifolds. Install the new EGR valve using a new OEM gasket. Torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications. Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Software / Calibration

   Turn the key switch to cycle the power. Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 000027.07 fault code.

   Post-Repair Regen

   Run the tractor under a heavy load or initiate a Parked Regeneration to burn off residual soot in the DPF and EGR systems, as light-duty work often causes this failure.
