Check the cause

  1. Verify Operator Position: Ensure the operator is fully seated before shifting the shuttle lever out of neutral.

  2. Cycle the Power: Return the shift lever to Park or Neutral, cycle the key switch off and back on, and ensure the operator is seated before shifting.

  3. Inspect the Seat Switch: Check the operator presence switch (located under the seat cushion) for physical damage, debris, or a stuck plunger.

  4. Verify Signal Transmission (Wiring): Inspect the wiring harness and connector going to the seat switch. Look for loose connections, frayed wires, or signs of damage that would interrupt the signal.

  5. Check the Reverse Drive Lever: Inspect the shuttle lever mechanism to ensure it is functioning correctly and not sending erroneous out-of-neutral signals when it shouldn't be.

Repair steps

  1. Secure the Machine

Park the tractor on a level surface, place the shuttle lever in Park/Neutral, engage the parking brake, and turn off the ignition.

  2. Access the Switch

Tilt the operator seat forward or remove the seat cushion to access the operator presence switch mounted in the seat base.

  3. Disconnect the Harness

Unplug the electrical connector from the seat switch.

  4. Remove the Switch

Depending on the exact seat model, the switch will either twist-lock out of its mounting hole or be secured by two small bolts. Remove the faulty switch.

  5. Install the New Switch

Seat the new switch into the mounting bracket and secure it (twist to lock or install the bolts).

  6. Reconnect and Test

Plug the wiring harness back in. Sit in the seat, start the tractor, and shift the shuttle lever to verify the 002820.31 code does not return and the tractor moves normally.
