John Deere 2931.01 – CCU: Brake Oil Level Extremely Low

Triggered when the brake oil level switch (located in the brake fluid reservoir) detects that the brake fluid has dropped below the minimum safe operating threshold.

   Perform a visual fluid check by locating the brake fluid reservoir and checking the fluid level against the sight glass or markings (must be between MIN and MAX)

   Inspect the brake fluid reservoir, cap, and surrounding brake lines for any signs of fluid leakage

   Check the brake actuating discs/pads for wear, as worn friction material displaces fluid into the lines and can cause the reservoir level to drop

   If the fluid level is full but the code is active, inspect the brake oil level switch and its wiring harness for failure, shorts, or disconnections

   Park Safely

   Park the tractor on level ground, lower all implements, and turn off the engine.

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the area around the brake fluid reservoir filler cap before removing it to prevent dirt from contaminating the brake system.

   Top Off Fluid

   If the fluid is low, remove the cap and add the specified brake fluid from a sealed container until it reaches the "MAX" mark. Do not overfill, as this will cause leakage.

   Replace Faulty Components

   If the reservoir is cracked or leaking, replace the brake fluid reservoir assembly. If the fluid level is correct but the CCU still registers an extremely low level, the brake oil level switch has failed and must be replaced.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reinstall the reservoir cap, close the hood, and clear the CCU fault codes using a diagnostic tool.
