3033.03

John Deere 3033.03 – OIC / XMB / TMB: Left Brake Pedal Position Sensor Circuit Fault - Voltage Too High

Issue description

The left brake pedal position sensor is a potentiometer that continuously sends a signal to the control module to indicate the pedal's position. The ".03" suffix specifically indicates that the voltage at the signal input of the left brake pedal potentiometer is reading higher than the valid range.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the left brake pedal sensor unit and its wiring harness for any signs of physical damage, loose connections, pinched wires, or corrosion.

  2. Use a multimeter to measure the voltage output of the brake pedal sensor at the signal input to see if the voltage is stuck high (e.g., reading over 2.0V - 4.2V depending on pedal position).

  3. Verify the potentiometer is receiving the correct 5V reference supply voltage and has a clean ground, as a short to power in the wiring harness can cause a false high voltage code.

  4. Verify the brake pedal switch and mechanical linkage for proper operation, ensuring the pedal returns fully and there are no mechanical obstructions.

  5. Ensure the OIC/Cab Control Unit software is updated to the latest version, as firmware updates sometimes address sensor signal handling.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Locate the Sensor

Locate the left brake pedal position sensor, which is mounted directly to the left brake pedal assembly inside the cab.

  3. Disconnect Harness

Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the faulty brake pedal potentiometer.

  4. Remove Sensor

Remove the retaining screws/hardware holding the sensor to the pedal linkage and remove the old sensor.

  5. Install New Sensor

Mount the new OEM position sensor in place and tighten the retaining hardware.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the electrical harness back into the new sensor.

  7. Calibrate the Sensor

CRITICAL STEP. A new sensor will trigger a related code (003033.13 - Left Brake Pedal Position Sensor Not Calibrated) until it is learned by the system. Use the John Deere Service ADVISOR tool (or the tractor's onboard diagnostic monitor, if equipped) to run the Brake Pedal Calibration procedure.

  8. Clear Codes and Test

Clear the stored 003033.03 fault code from the OIC/XMB module and test-drive the tractor to ensure normal braking and transmission neutralization functions are restored.

Parts you might need
