3361.07

John Deere 3361.07 – ECU: DEF Dosing Injector Position Invalid

Issue description

This code is logged when the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) dosing injector fails to reach the position commanded by the control unit. This discrepancy is typically caused by a mechanical hindrance such as physical obstructions or wear, an actuator failure, or incorrect calibration. When this occurs, the control system may attempt to reposition the injector multiple times to correct the error.

Check the cause

  1. Examine the DEF dosing injector mechanism for any physical obstructions, buildup of crystallized DEF, or signs of mechanical wear that could prevent the pintle/valve from reaching its desired position.

  2. Use a diagnostic tool to command the injector actuator and check its performance to ensure it responds appropriately to the ECU's control signals.

  3. Verify if the injector and actuator are functioning but simply out of alignment, which would require a software recalibration.

Repair steps

  1. Clean/Clear Obstructions

If crystallized DEF or debris is physically blocking the injector, clean the injector nozzle and mounting port.

  2. Calibrate the Injector

If the hardware is intact but the position is invalid, perform an injector recalibration via the John Deere Service ADVISOR tool.

  3. Replace Components

If recalibration does not resolve the issue, or if the actuator fails the diagnostic actuation test, replace the defective DEF dosing injector.

  4. Reset the ECU

After cleaning, calibrating, or replacing the injector, reset the ECU to clear the 003361.07 diagnostic code.

  5. Verify Operation

Conduct a system test run under various operational conditions to ensure the new or recalibrated injector reaches its intended positions accurately without throwing the code again.
