   Visual Inspection: Check the wiring harness and the connector at the Air Throttle Actuator. Look for unplugged connectors, broken locking tabs, backed-out pins, or corrosion.

   Resistance/Continuity Test: Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the actuator circuit between the ECU and the actuator plug. High resistance or an 'OL' (open line) reading confirms a break in the wiring.

   Actuator Test: If the wiring is intact, run a 'Harness Diagnostic Mode' test in John Deere Service Advisor (with the engine off). This will command the actuator to move. Listen and watch for smooth movement of the throttle plate without sticking or grinding.

   Check for Swapped Connectors: Ensure the Air Throttle Actuator plug hasn't been accidentally swapped with the EGR valve connector during previous maintenance, as they are sometimes identical.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic tests revealed a broken wire or damaged connector plug, splice in a new connector pigtail or repair the damaged wire section.

   Replace the Actuator

   If the wiring harness tests good but the actuator motor has an internal open circuit: Remove the intake piping connected to the air throttle valve, unbolt the air throttle actuator assembly from the intake manifold, install the new air throttle actuator/intake valve and torque the bolts to OEM specifications, and reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place securely.

   Reassemble and Reconnect

   Reinstall any removed intake piping and reconnect the battery.

   Clear Codes and Calibrate

   Connect the diagnostic tool, clear the ECU 003464.05 fault code, and perform an actuator calibration procedure if required by the specific engine manual.

   Functional Test

   Start the engine and verify normal operation. You may need to allow the machine to run a stationary DPF regeneration cycle to ensure the air management system is functioning correctly and no codes return.
