3464.07

John Deere 3464.07 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Air Throttle Actuator Fault / Air Throttle Actuator Desired and Actual Position Mismatch During a Learn

Issue description

This code indicates that the air throttle valve is not responding correctly, is out of adjustment, or there is a physical mismatch between where the controller is commanding the actuator to be and its actual physical position. When this code is active, Active Exhaust Filter cleaning (regen) becomes unavailable, and continued operation will result in engine derate or loss of machine availability.

Check the cause

  1. Check for a broken engine drive belt.

  2. Inspect the air throttle actuator for physical damage, specifically checking if the shaft connecting the actuator to the butterfly valve has snapped.

  3. Using John Deere Service Advisor, run a Harness Diagnostic Mode test to run all engine actuators and solenoids with the engine off.

  4. Remove the air throttle from the intake piping but leave the electrical actuator connected, run the diagnostic test, and physically observe if the butterfly valve opens and closes completely without binding.

  5. Verify the wiring harness to the air throttle actuator for shorts to ground or high resistance.

Repair steps

  1. Remove the Faulty Component

Disconnect the electrical harness and remove the air throttle valve from the intake tract if the actuator shaft is snapped, the valve is binding, or it fails the Service Advisor sweep test.

  2. Install the New Part

Install the replacement air throttle valve/actuator assembly and secure the intake piping. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  3. Calibrate the Actuator

You must use John Deere Service Advisor to calibrate the new air throttle actuator so the ECU can learn its minimum and maximum physical positions.

  4. Clear and Test

Clear the 003464.07 code from the ECU. Run the engine and verify that Active Exhaust Filter cleaning (regen) is once again available and that the engine does not derate.
