3465.05

John Deere 3465.05 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Air Throttle Actuator / Exhaust Throttle Actuator Drive Circuit Has High Resistance

Issue description

The engine system has detected that the electrical current to the exhaust throttle valve is less than expected. The resistance in the actuator's drive circuit is too high, which specifically indicates an open circuit.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the exhaust/air throttle actuator for unplugged connectors, chafed wires, or physical damage.

  2. Use a multimeter to test the circuit resistance to pinpoint whether the open circuit is in the engine wiring harness or internal to the actuator.

  3. Inspect the actuator and the shaft connecting it to the butterfly valve to ensure the shaft hasn't snapped and there is no severe soot buildup restricting movement.

  4. Run a 'Harness Diagnostic Mode' test using John Deere Service Advisor with the engine off to manually send a signal to the actuator and verify electrical operation.

Repair steps

  1. Resolve Wiring Faults

If the multimeter test reveals a broken wire or loose connection in the harness, repair the exposed/broken wires or secure the connector.

  2. Replace the Actuator

If the wiring harness tests perfectly fine (indicating the open circuit is an internal fault within the actuator motor), remove and replace the Exhaust Throttle Valve / Air Throttle Actuator assembly.

  3. Reassemble

If replacing the valve, ensure you use new gaskets and properly torque the V-band clamps.

  4. Calibrate

Use a diagnostic tool (like John Deere Service Advisor) to perform a calibration procedure on the new actuator so the ECU can learn its full range of motion.

  5. Clear Codes and Test

Reset the ECU to clear the 003465.05 fault code. Start the engine and conduct a functional test to ensure the engine operates without derating and the code does not return.
