John Deere 3465.13 – ECU: Air Throttle Actuator Calibration Error / Exhaust Throttle Actuator Calibration Error
Issue description
This code is triggered when the air/exhaust throttle actuator is not calibrated. There is a mismatch between the desired position commanded by the controller and the actual position of the actuator. This discrepancy can stem from mechanical restrictions (such as soot buildup), sensor failures, or electronic control issues, which impact the actuator's ability to regulate engine air intake or exhaust properly.

Check the cause
Inspect the physical condition of the air/exhaust throttle actuator for wear, damage, soot build-up, or physical obstructions preventing the butterfly valve from moving freely.
Verify that the position sensors are functioning correctly and providing accurate data to the ECU.
Run a harness test to ensure there are no shorts to ground, shorts to power (12V), or high resistance in the actuator drive circuit.
Repair steps
Clean and Clear Obstructions
If soot or debris is binding the actuator, clean the assembly and ensure the mechanical linkage/shaft is intact and moves freely.
Calibrate the Actuator
Connect a diagnostic tool (such as John Deere Service ADVISOR) and run the actuator calibration procedure to align the component with the ECU's commands.
Replace Faulty Components
If the actuator fails the calibration process, is mechanically broken (e.g., a snapped internal shaft), or the position sensors are faulty, remove the air/exhaust throttle from the intake/exhaust stream and replace the actuator assembly.
Reset and Verify
After repairs or recalibration, clear the fault codes and reset the ECU to ensure it recognizes the actuator's new operational state. Run the engine and conduct tests to confirm accurate performance without derate conditions.
