   Visual Harness Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness leading to the exhaust/air throttle actuator. Look for chafed wires, melted insulation, or corrosion in the connector that could cause a short to ground.

   Voltage Test: Using a multimeter, verify the 5-volt reference supply circuit at the actuator connector.

   Harness Diagnostic Mode Test: Connect John Deere Service Advisor and run a 'Harness Diagnostic Mode' test to command the engine's actuators and solenoids with the engine off. Listen for the actuator attempting to sweep or check if the software reports it as completely unresponsive/seized.

   Mechanical Inspection: Remove the intake/exhaust piping around the valve. Check if the butterfly valve is heavily coked with soot and physically jammed, or if the shaft connecting the actuator to the flap has snapped.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Remove the Valve Assembly

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the throttle actuator. Loosen and remove the V-band clamps or mounting bolts securing the exhaust/air throttle valve to the manifold or exhaust piping.

   Clean the Mating Surfaces

   Remove any old gasket material or soot buildup from the pipe flanges.

   Install the New Part

   Position the new exhaust throttle valve assembly with new gaskets. Secure it using the V-band clamps (do not overtighten until properly aligned).

   Reconnect Wiring

   Plug the electrical connector back into the new actuator. Ensure the locking tab clicks into place.

   Calibrate the Actuator

   Reconnect the battery. Crucial step: You must use John Deere Service Advisor to run an actuator calibration procedure so the ECU can learn the new component's minimum and maximum end-stops.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Clear the 003473.04 fault code from the ECU. Start the engine and verify that no derate conditions or check engine lights return.
