3509.02

John Deere 3509.02 – Cab Module (TIA): Supply Voltage Out of Tolerance

Issue description

The 5-volt reference circuit—which supplies power to various sensors and controls on the machine—is operating outside of its expected voltage range (either pulled too low by a short or reading too high).

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R
  • 310SJ
  • 410J
  • 318G
  • 323E

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the CAN BUS and 5V reference wiring for any signs of damage, wear, or disconnection, including corroded or loose connectors.

  2. Verify the integrity and functionality of the CAN BUS terminating resistors, as a failure here can disrupt module communication.

  3. Backprobe sensor and joystick connectors to verify the supply voltage and ensure the ground wire has 0.100 volts or less.

  4. Perform a wiggle test on the wiring harness from the sensors/joysticks back to the hydraulic controller or Cab Module to check for intermittent voltage drops indicating a short.

Repair steps

  1. Repair Wiring

If the wiggle test or visual inspection reveals chafed wires or corroded connectors, repair or replace the affected section of the wiring harness.

  2. Isolate the Short

If the 5V supply is out of tolerance, unplug sensors on that 5V circuit one by one (e.g., left/right joysticks, brake sensors). If the voltage returns to normal (5V) upon unplugging a specific component, that component is internally shorted and must be replaced.

  3. Replace Faulty Sensors/Joysticks

Install the new sensor or joystick controller.

  4. Calibrate

If a joystick or control sensor was replaced, perform a manual calibration procedure.

  5. Replace the TIA Module

If all wiring, grounds, and sensors test perfectly but the Cab Module is still outputting an out-of-tolerance voltage, the Cab Module (TIA) itself has an internal fault and must be replaced.
