003509.03

John Deere 003509.03 – CAB: 5V Sensor Supply Overvoltage

Issue description

The system has detected an overvoltage condition on the 5-volt sensor supply circuit (greater than 5.5 VDC) for module 5. This 5-volt supply acts as a reference voltage provided by the control unit to power various sensors. When this voltage exceeds the expected range, it can cause the affected sensors to send incorrect data, leading to system malfunctions. This fault is commonly associated with the Engine Control Unit (ECU), Cab Control Module (CAB), or Hitch Control Unit (HCU).

Check the cause

  1. Verify battery and charging system health, including alternator output and battery terminals, to rule out general machine voltage fluctuations. Reduce electrical load and increase engine RPM to see if the code clears

  2. Inspect all relevant fuses for the Cab Control Unit and associated modules

  3. Visually inspect the wiring harness connected to the Cab Control Unit and 5V sensors for chafing, melting, or rodent damage that could cause a short to a higher voltage source

Repair steps

  1. Isolate faulty sensor

Turn the key to the ON position without starting the engine. Disconnect sensors powered by the Cab Control Unit's 5V supply (e.g., foot throttle, brake pedal, hitch controls) one at a time. If the fault code becomes inactive after disconnecting a specific sensor, replace that sensor.

  2. Test wiring harness and controller

If the fault remains active after disconnecting all sensors, turn the ignition OFF and disconnect the main connector from the Cab Control Unit. Turn the ignition back ON.

  3. Repair wiring harness

If the code disappears with the controller disconnected, there is a short to power in the wiring harness. Perform a detailed pin-to-pin check to locate and repair the short circuit.

  4. Replace Cab Control Unit

If the fault code is still present with the main connector disconnected (verified via diagnostic tool), it indicates an internal failure of the Cab Control Unit. Replace the controller.
