  4. Isolate the shorted component by disconnecting the 5-volt sensors on the affected circuit one at a time while monitoring the current draw or active fault code status.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

  2. Repair Wiring

    If the diagnostic inspection revealed chafed or damaged wiring shorting to the chassis, repair the wiring harness using OEM-approved splicing methods or replace the affected harness section.

  3. Replace Faulty Sensors

    If a specific sensor was found to be drawing excessive current, replace it with a properly functioning unit.

  4. Replace the Control Unit

    If the wiring harness is completely intact and all sensors test good, the internal 5V driver within the control module has likely failed. Replace the Armrest Interface Control Unit (AIC) or Operator Interface Control Unit (OIC).

  5. Update Software

    Ensure that the control software for the AIC/OIC is updated to the latest version, as firmware updates can improve current regulation.

  6. Verify Repair

    Reconnect the battery, clear the stored diagnostic trouble codes, and monitor system performance to ensure the 5V supply current remains within the specified range and the error does not recur.
