Check the cause
Inspect Wiring and Connections: Visually inspect all wiring harnesses and connectors associated with the HCC 5-volt components (such as the hitch position sensor and draft link sensors). Look for rubbed-through wire insulation, pinched wires, loose connections, or corrosion that could cause a short to ground.
Isolate the Sensors: Because multiple sensors share the 5V supply, disconnect the sensors on the HCC 5V circuit one at a time. If the current drops to a normal range (or the active code changes to an inactive/voltage-low code) when a specific sensor is unplugged, that sensor is internally shorted and is the culprit.
Test Current and Voltage Levels: Use a multimeter to measure the current at the supply lead to confirm it exceeds the specified range. Also, verify that the ground connection is secure and free of corrosion, as a poor ground can sometimes cause erratic high current readings.
Check the Module: If all sensors are unplugged and the wiring harness tests completely free of shorts to ground, the Hitch Control Module (HCC) itself may have an internal board fault.

If a short to ground is found in the harness (e.g., wires rubbing against the tractor chassis), repair the damaged wire and wrap it securely in protective loom.
Replace Faulty Components

Replace the HCC
If the module itself is internally shorted and outputting excessive current regardless of the harness state, replace the Hitch Control Module.

Clear Codes and Calibrate
Clear the 003509.06 code. If a hitch sensor or the HCC was replaced, you will likely need to perform a rear hitch calibration procedure via the tractor's display to restore full functionality.
