Issue description

The 5V sensor supply circuit is drawing excessive amperage. This condition typically points to a short to ground within the sensor wiring harness, a failed sensor that is internally shorted and pulling too much current, or an internal fault within the control unit itself.

Check the cause

  1. Isolate the sensors (sensor short cause): Disconnect the 5-volt sensors on the suspended front axle one by one. If the high current draw drops back to normal when a specific sensor is unplugged, that sensor is internally shorted.

  2. Inspect wiring and connections (wiring short cause): Visually inspect all wiring harnesses and connectors between the SFA module and the front axle sensors. Look for chafing, bare wires, corrosion, or loose connections that could cause a short to ground.

  3. Test current and voltage levels (module fault cause): Use a multimeter to measure the current at the 5V supply lead. Verify the 5-volt supply voltage circuit directly at the Front Chassis Control Unit to see if the module is outputting the correct voltage.

  4. Verify ground integrity: Ensure the module and sensor ground connections are secure and free of corrosion, as a poor ground can cause erratic current readings.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery before performing electrical repairs.

  2. Address Faulty Sensors

    If the diagnostic isolation test identified a faulty sensor, remove and replace the specific suspended front axle sensor.

  3. Repair Wiring

    If the wiring harness is damaged or shorted to the chassis, repair the damaged wire sections using proper splicing techniques and heat shrink, or replace the affected harness section.

  4. Replace the Control Unit

    If the wiring and sensors test perfectly but the SFA module continues to output excessive current or shows an internal fault, the Front Chassis Control Unit (SFA) must be replaced.

  5. Reassembly

    Reconnect all components and the battery.

  6. Software & Calibration

    Ensure the control software is updated to the latest version. Clear the diagnostic trouble codes and perform a calibration of the suspended front-wheel drive axle system (replacing the SFA or sensors requires recalibration for the suspension to work properly).

  7. Test

    Test drive the tractor to monitor system performance and ensure the code does not return.
