John Deere 3510.04 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Sensor Supply #2 Voltage Out of Range Low

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) detects that the voltage on the second 5-volt sensor supply circuit has dropped below the required specification (typically below 4.59V or 4.8V). This low voltage condition almost always indicates a short circuit to ground within the wiring harness or internally within one of the sensors powered by this specific 5-volt circuit.

   Turn the ignition OFF and ensure the engine is OFF.

   Disconnect one of the sensors on the circuit (Engine Oil Pressure, Manifold Air Pressure, or Low-Pressure Fuel Pressure).

   Turn the ignition ON (Engine OFF) and check active diagnostic codes.

   If code 003510.04 goes away or changes to a Voltage High or Open Circuit code, the unplugged sensor is internally shorted.

   If the code remains active, turn the ignition off, plug the sensor back in, and repeat the process for the next sensor.

   If all sensors are unplugged and the code is still active, use a multimeter to measure the voltage at the ECU pins (e.g., J1 and J3 connectors) to check for a wiring harness short to ground.

   Resolve Sensor Faults

   If the isolation test proves a sensor is internally shorted, replace the faulty sensor.

   Resolve Wiring Faults

   If the sensors are good, thoroughly inspect the wiring harness for the 5V sensor supply 2 circuit. Look for chafing, rubbing against the engine block, melted insulation, or pinched wires causing a short to ground.

   Repair Harness

   Repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness using proper heat-shrink connectors.

   Verify Repair

   Reconnect all sensors, turn the ignition on, and clear the ECU codes. Run the engine and verify that the 5V supply remains stable (between 4.65V and 5.2V) and that the 003510.04 code does not return.
