Issue description

Check the cause

  1. Identify the Affected Circuit: Determine exactly which sensors are powered by the '5V Sensor Supply 2' on the specific module (OIC or AIC) throwing the code.

  2. Inspect Wiring and Connectors: Thoroughly inspect the wiring harness for the 5V sensor supply 2 circuit. Look for fraying, chafing, or pinched wires that could cause a short to ground. Check all connectors for loose pins, corrosion, or moisture.

  3. Measure Voltage: Use a multimeter to measure the voltage output at the sensor connectors. Verify if the voltage is indeed below the 4.8V normal operating range.

  4. Isolate the Sensors: Unplug the sensors on the #2 5-volt circuit one at a time. If the 5-volt reference returns to normal (approx. 5.0V) after unplugging a specific sensor, that sensor is internally shorted.

  5. Test the Control Unit: If all sensors are unplugged and the wiring harness tests good (no continuity to ground on the 5V supply wire), but the module is still outputting low voltage, the internal circuitry of the OIC or AIC is faulty.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

    Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery before repairing wiring or replacing modules.

  2. Repair Wiring

    If a short to ground was found in the harness, repair the damaged wire using OEM-approved splicing methods or replace the affected harness section. Ensure the harness is routed away from pinch points.

  3. Replace Faulty Sensor

    If a sensor was found to be pulling the voltage down, replace it. Ensure the connector is clean and fully seated.

  4. Replace the Control Unit

    If the OIC or AIC module has an internal failure: Remove the trim/panels on the armrest or cab console to access the module. Disconnect the wiring harnesses from the module. Unbolt and remove the faulty OIC or AIC. Install the new module and reconnect the harnesses.

  5. Recalibrate and Test

    Reconnect the battery. Clear the stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). If the OIC or AIC was replaced, you may need to use John Deere Service ADVISOR to program the new module to the machine and recalibrate the armrest/cab controls. Perform a functional test to ensure the voltage is stable and the code does not return.
