Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness for the 5V sensor supply 2 circuit for areas where it may be rubbing against the seat frame or armrest housing, causing a short to ground.

  2. Inspect all connectors on this circuit for fraying, loose pins, or corrosion.

  3. Perform a sensor isolation drop test by disconnecting armrest sensors (e.g., SCV levers, hitch controls, throttle module) one at a time. If the high current code goes inactive or changes to a voltage out of range code, the unplugged sensor is internally shorted.

  4. Measure the voltage and current output directly at the AIC pins for Sensor Supply 2 using a multimeter to verify if the short is in the harness or internal to the AIC board.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

    Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery ground before servicing the CommandARM™ to prevent static damage to the circuit boards.

  2. Repair Wiring

    If a short to ground was found in the harness during the visual inspection, repair the damaged wire using an approved John Deere wiring splice kit, or replace the affected harness section.

  3. Replace Faulty Sensor

    If the isolation test revealed an internally shorted sensor (e.g., a faulty SCV control lever module or throttle module), remove the armrest covers and replace the specific module.

  4. Replace the AIC (If Necessary)

    If the wiring is completely intact and all sensors test good, the Armrest Interface Control Unit itself has an internal short. Remove the CommandARM™ assembly covers, use a grounding strap to prevent static electricity damage, disconnect the navigation bar connector, remove the mounting screws to extract the AIC board, and install the new AIC board.

  5. Recalibrate

    Reconnect the battery. Use John Deere Service ADVISOR (or the CommandCenter™ display) to clear the stored codes and perform the Armrest Interface Control Unit (AIC) Configuration and Calibration. Test all armrest functions to ensure the voltage is stable.
