Check the cause

  1. Verify voltage on the XSC 5-volt sensor supply circuit using a multimeter or John Deere Service ADVISOR to confirm if it reads above 5.25V (typically closer to 12V if shorted).

  2. Disconnect the sensors on this specific 5V circuit one by one (e.g., Wheel Angle Sensor, Steering Wheel Position Sensor) to see if voltage drops back to normal, indicating an internal sensor short.

  3. Visually and physically inspect the wiring harness connecting the XSC module to the steering sensors for chafing, pinched wires, or melted insulation where the 5V wire might touch a 12V supply wire.

Repair steps

  1. Safely secure the machine

    Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

  2. Access the XSC Module and Harness

    Locate the AutoTrac steering controller (XSC) and the associated steering sensor wiring harness.

  3. Test the Harness

    Disconnect the harness from both the XSC module and the sensors. Use a multimeter to check for continuity between the 5V supply pin and any 12V power pins in the harness.

  4. Repair the Short

    If a short is found in the harness, trace the wire to find the damaged section. Splice and repair the wire using OEM-approved heat-shrink connectors, or replace the affected harness section entirely.

  5. Replace Faulty Components

    If the harness tests good but a sensor was found to be internally shorted during the diagnostic phase, replace the faulty sensor. If the harness and sensors are completely fine but the XSC module is outputting 12V on a 5V pin, the module itself has an internal hardware failure and must be replaced.

  6. Reassemble and Clear Codes

    Reconnect all modules and sensors. Turn the key to the ON position, connect John Deere Service ADVISOR, and clear the 003511.03 fault code.

  7. Test Drive

    Operate the AutoTrac system in the field to ensure the steering functions correctly and the code does not return.
